While it’s always fun to explore different hair styles, not every style is going to work for your face shape. There are several different face shapes that are all accentuated by certain longer or shorter styles. The Style Room, in Brielle, New Jersey loves experimenting and having fun with styles and color. We also know that the first step to style selection is face shape. That’s why we have compiled some tips for you to get the right style for your face.
Let’s take a look at the six face shapes:
• Oval – This face shape has a slightly narrower jaw line than the top of the face. The good thing about this shape is that you can wear a variety of styles well. Whether it’s a short style, or a long style, avoid bangs because this may hide features of the oval shape. Celebrities with the oval face shape include Jennifer Anniston, Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz.
• Rectangle – This is a long and slender face shape with generally equal widths throughout the face. If you have a rectangular face, try a short to medium style and avoid long styles. A shorter cut with take away some of the length of the face. Celebrities with the rectangular face include Gwenyth Paltrow and Janet Jackson.
• Round – The round shape is a full face with a round chin and hairline. If this is your face shape, avoid chin length styles. You also want to avoid bangs that go straight across the forehead. Try an off center part with hair moving toward the back of your head. Celebrities with a round face include Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore and Christina Ricci.
• Square – This shape has a square jaw line with an equally square hairline. Short to medium length hair works best with the square face. Try a wave or rounded style around your face. Off center parts also look great on this shape. Avoid long straight hair styles if you have a square face. Celebrities with the square face include Demi Moore and Sandra Bullock.
• Heart – The heart shape face is wide at the hairline and narrows at the chin. Those with the heart shape face should consider chin length and longer styles. Chin length bobs are great styles to for the heart shape face. Those with this shape should avoid short styles that accentuate the top of the face. Celebrities with the heart shape face include Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lisa Kudrow.
• Triangular – This shape is much the opposite of the heart shape with a wider jaw line and narrower hairline. Try shorter styles if you have this face shape. Shag styles and styles with lots of layers do well with triangular faces. Triangular faces, don’t hide your ears, they actually draw attention to your eyes! Avoid long full styles with this shape. Celebrities with the triangular face shape include Kathy Ireland.
